Description

Martin’s Permethrin 10% Multi-Purpose Insecticide is a trusted, professional-strength solution designed to help livestock owners, poultry keepers, and property managers maintain a cleaner, more comfortable environment. Formulated with 10% permethrin, this long-lasting insecticide provides effective control against a wide range of pests, including flies, lice, fleas, and mites. Its concentrated formula delivers quick knockdown and extended residual protection, helping reduce pest populations and minimize the stress and irritation insects can cause around animals and facilities.

Active Ingredients

  • Permethrin – 10.00%
  • Other Ingredients – 90.00%
  • Total – 100.00%

Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that provides control of flies, lice, fleas, mites, and many other insect pests.

Typical Poultry & Livestock Dilution Rates

For poultry premises, coops, roosts, walls, and litter areas:

  • Mix 1.28 fl oz (38 mL) of Permethrin 10% concentrate per gallon of water.
  • Spray surfaces thoroughly but do not soak birds directly unless the label specifically allows it.

For mites and lice on poultry housing:

  • Mix 1.28–2.0 fl oz per gallon of water depending on infestation severity.
  • Treat cracks, crevices, nesting boxes, roosts, and surrounding areas.
  • Repeat treatment in 7–14 days if necessary to break the pest life cycle.

For livestock premises and fly control:

  • Typical dilution ranges from 0.25% to 0.5% finished spray, which is approximately 0.5–1.0 fl oz concentrate per gallon of water, depending on the target pest and application site.

Controls

  • Flies
  • Lice
  • Fleas
  • Mites

Important Notes

  • Always follow the manufacturer’s label directions for your specific use.
  • Do not exceed labeled concentrations.
  • Wear appropriate protective equipment when mixing and spraying.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Observe any egg, meat, or livestock restrictions listed on the product label.

For chicken mites (Northern Fowl Mites and Poultry Red Mites), most poultry keepers use Martin’s Permethrin 10% as a premise spray rather than relying solely on treating the birds.

Coop & Premise Treatment

Mix:

  • 1.28 fl oz (38 mL) per gallon of water

Apply to:

  • Roosts and perches
  • Nest boxes
  • Walls and corners
  • Cracks and crevices
  • Under roosts and around litter

Spray until surfaces are damp but not dripping. Red mites spend much of their life cycle hiding in cracks during the day, so thorough coverage is important.

Direct Bird Treatment

For birds that are heavily infested, many poultry owners use a 0.25% permethrin spray, which can be made by mixing:

  • 0.32 fl oz (9.5 mL) Martin’s Permethrin 10%
  • 1 gallon of water

Lightly mist or spray the vent area, under the wings, and around the neck while avoiding the eyes, nostrils, and mouth.

Treatment Schedule

Because mite eggs are not killed by most insecticides:

  1. Treat birds and coop on Day 1
  2. Repeat on Day 7–10
  3. Repeat again on Day 14–21 if mites are still present

This breaks the hatch cycle and prevents reinfestation.

Additional Tips

  • Remove and replace heavily infested nesting material.
  • Clean roosts before spraying.
  • Treat all birds at the same time.
  • Dust bathing areas with food-grade diatomaceous earth can provide additional support, though it should not replace treatment.
  • Check birds at night with a flashlight; poultry red mites are often easier to find after dark.

For severe infestations, I generally recommend focusing most of your effort on treating the coop and roosts, because that’s where red mites spend most of their time. Even if the birds are treated, they’ll quickly become reinfested if the coop isn’t thoroughly sprayed.
